About
Emily Schmookler
Movement, breath, music and healing have always been integral parts of my life and journey in becoming a teacher and practitioner. My love for performing arts, dance and martial arts blossomed throughout childhood and adolescence, while my passion for travel and learning about other cultures and health modalities began in my teens, ultimately guiding me to the World Arts and Cultures Program at UCLA, where I graduated with a BA in Cultural Studies and Dance.
I began my teaching journey at the YMCA, developing and teaching a dance program for at-risk high school students in Oakland, CA. When I completed my first 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in April of 2011 at CorePower Yoga in Berkeley, I knew I had found a new lifelong practice and community. Evolving from teacher to Studio Manager to Master Trainer over a span of eleven years at Corepower Yoga, I opened yoga studios across the country from The Bay Area to Boston. As Master Trainer, I was an essential member of The Pacific Northwest Team, that reopened all CPY locations during the “post-pandemic” era of the organization, as well as a key creator of content and curriculum rooted in Ayurveda, Yoga and Pranayama for their 200-hour and 300-Hour Teacher Training Programs.
For me, being a teacher means being a forever student with a zest for learning. I continued my journey as both teacher and student, by completing a 300-Hour Ayurveda Yoga Teacher Training in 2018 and a 650-hour Ayurvedic Health Counselor training in 2020, both at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. My passion to help others heal through these sacred Eastern medicines deepened as I integrated yoga, Ayurveda and western medicine in treating my own endometrial cancer. I furthered my development and became an Ayurvedic practitioner at Boston Ayurveda Inc. in the fall of 2022.
Currently I teach seasonal balancing yoga locally in Berkeley and Oakland for a couple studios (see my happenings page for current classes), I lead seasonal at-home wellness retreats, private and group yoga classes and personal one on one integrated healing sessions using all of my studied resources. I am dedicated to uplifting individuals who seek a healthier, active and balanced lifestyle, believing simple nutrition, movement, breath and meditation can be accessible to everyone. I am honored and grateful to support you in your healing journey.
